Just 20 km from the Hotel Castel Fleuri
From our 3-star hotel on Normandy’s Côte Fleurie, you’re just 30 minutes away by car from Deauville, the seaside resort in the Calvados region that embodies luxury and prestige. This is another place which has managed to conserve the charm and elegance of the Belle Époque period. Internationally renowned, it attracts stars of the silver screen and race-goers alike. Its boardwalk, its large beach dotted with colourful parasols, its golf courses, its stud farms, its deluxe hotels and its casino are world-famous.
Some of the things to see include the boardwalk, built in 1923 and made famous in Claude Lelouch’s 1923 film “Un homme et une femme” and the 2 km long beach. There’s also the Pompeian Baths, a masterpiece of Charles Adda and featuring typical architecture of the Roaring Twenties. The Casino, meanwhile, is world-renowned and contains the second greatest hall in France dedicated to gambling. There’s also the Villa Strassburger, an archetype of regional manors that was built by Baron Henri de Rothschild in 1907 and sold to the American billionaire Ralph-Beaver Strassburger in 1924. In the Place Morny, discover a lively market and a perfect departure point for a shopping trip. There’s also the race course, whose construction was instigated by the Duke of Morny, a lover of horses and considered the father of modern Deauville; here there are races in both winter and summer, as well as polo matches. Finally, see the “Breloque”, home of Eugène Boudin (forefather of Impressionism) and the Hotel Normandy.
Deauville is also a top destination for festivals. There’s the Deauville American Film Festival, started in 1975 and welcoming top stars to the Centre International de Deauville in early September, the Festival Sable Show (free concerts across from the sea every Tuesday and Friday night in July and August), and the Planche(s) Contact Festival (a series of photography exhibitions in October and November).
